How to Choose a Crypto Card
A few things to weigh before you pick one:
- Debit vs credit. Debit and prepaid cards spend a balance you load (often crypto you already own), while crypto credit cards work like a normal rewards card and pay you back in crypto — no crypto required to start, but they involve a credit check.
- Which crypto you earn. Some cards pay rewards in Bitcoin, others in their own token (such as CRO) or another coin. If you want to stack BTC specifically, check the reward asset.
- Fees and availability. Watch for annual fees, ATM and foreign-exchange fees, and whether the card is offered in your country or state.
- Where rewards go. Rewards usually land in the card’s own app. For long-term savings, move them to a wallet you control.

Crypto Card FAQ
What is the difference between a crypto debit card and a crypto credit card?
A crypto debit or prepaid card spends a balance you load in advance (often from crypto you already hold), with no credit check. A crypto credit card works like any rewards credit card, but your rewards are paid in Bitcoin or other crypto. Credit cards require a credit check; debit cards do not.
Are crypto cards available in the US?
Many are. Coinbase, Coinbase One, Gemini, Crypto.com, Fold, and Uphold all offer cards to US residents (availability can vary by state). The Nexo Card is currently for EEA and UK residents only. Always confirm current availability with each issuer.
Do crypto cards charge fees?
It depends on the card. Several have no annual fee, but watch for ATM fees, foreign-transaction fees, and spread or conversion fees when crypto is sold to fund a purchase. Check the fee schedule for each card before applying.
Are crypto card rewards taxable?
In many countries, crypto rewards and any gains when you later sell the crypto can be taxable events. Rules vary by region, so keep records and consult a tax professional for your situation.
